Who's behind Book of Mormon Covers?
Thank you so much for being here.
My name is Andrea. I live in middle Georgia, two hours south of Atlanta. I’m originally from Santiago, Chile. I’ve been married for 17 years, and I have 4 children. My aunt Lucy took me to church when I was little, so I had the blessing to participate in Primary, Young Women’s program, Seminary, Institute, all of it.
After I received my associate in business from BYU-I, I got a job working for a Christian Publishing company as a Logistic Facilitator and CSR. I loved that job because it gave me the opportunity to speak with Christians from other denominations. God truly loves all His children. At work, I had to do a training about the Bible and how the Bible was bounded and printed years and years ago. That got me super interested in book binding, so I started binding notebooks, journals and sketchbooks for my family and friends. For some reason, I started to feel off at work. I wanted to quit my job because of this feeling, but I loved my job, so it was hard for me to make the decision to leave. God knew my heart and He helped me.
When I got terminated, I felt relieved. I felt like God was telling me, “I gotcha, Andrea. I fixed it.”
I kept binding journals. I thought they were something unique I could give as a present to the young women of my ward leaving on missions (because the journals I was making had the mission map and their names on the front cover). That guided me to start working with The Book of Mormon.
The first time I read the entire Book of Mormon I was 13 years old. I’ve read it many times since then and I know with all my heart that it’s the word of God. It was translated by a true prophet of God, Joseph Smith. I know that the Book of Mormon can guide you closer to Christ, because that’s what it has done for me.
There is a reason I’m doing this. I keep thinking of what President Nelson said, “Anytime you do anything that helps anyone—on either side of the veil—take a step toward making covenants with God and receiving their essential baptismal and temple ordinances, you are helping to gather Israel.” Maybe, with my covers I’m helping gathering Israel.
I hope my covers will help you in at least a small portion to get closer to Christ.
This is me pointing to Santiago, Chile.
